Deep Cleaning in London

A deep clean is not a long version of a routine visit. It reaches what routine cleaning deliberately leaves alone — inside appliances, behind fixed furniture, above head height, and into the limescale that London's water leaves on everything it touches.

What a deep clean covers

Kitchen

  • Oven interior, including door glass, shelves, runners and the seal
  • Extractor filters degreased or replaced; hood interior
  • Refrigerator and freezer interiors, seals and drip channels
  • Inside every cupboard and drawer, emptied and relined where agreed
  • Behind and beneath freestanding appliances where they can be moved safely
  • Splashbacks, grout, sink, waste and taps fully descaled

Bathrooms

  • Full descale of sanitary ware, screens, taps, shower heads and tiling
  • Grout cleaned and, where failed, reported rather than disguised
  • Extractor vents, shaver points, cabinet interiors
  • Sealant inspected; mould treated where surface, reported where not

Throughout

  • High-level: cornicing, coving, pelmets, picture rails, light fittings
  • Interior glass, including reveals, shutters, sash boxes and glazing bars
  • Radiators, including behind and between the fins
  • Skirtings, architraves, door tops, banisters and spindles
  • Upholstery and curtain vacuuming with the appropriate head
  • Floors treated according to surface — never one method throughout

Chandeliers, high-level glazing above a single storey, and specialist stone or textile work are quoted separately. They need different equipment, sometimes different insurance, and always more time than a deep clean allows.

How a deep clean runs

We survey first, in person. A deep clean quoted from a floor plan or a room count is a guess, and the guess is usually wrong in the direction that suits whoever made it.

Most houses take a team of two to four and between one and three days. We work top down and back to front, so that nothing already cleaned is dirtied by what comes after, and we finish each room completely rather than moving through the house by task.

You do not need to be present, though we prefer you or your property manager to walk the house with us at the end.

Descaling, and why it is the whole job

London sits on a chalk and limestone aquifer, and the water that comes out of a Thames Water tap runs between roughly 250 and 350 milligrams of calcium carbonate per litre — hard to very hard on the Drinking Water Inspectorate's scale. Every bathroom in this city is in a slow argument with limescale, and most deep cleans are really descaling jobs with other work attached.

Removing limescale needs an acid — typically citric, formic or sulphamic, chosen by what the deposit sits on and how long it has been there. That creates the central problem of deep cleaning a prime London bathroom: the thing that dissolves limescale is the same thing that permanently etches marble, limestone and travertine, and the two are frequently within a hand's width of each other.

So we sequence it. Stone surfaces are isolated and protected before any acid is opened. Descaling is done to a controlled dilution with a dwell time rather than scrubbed, because mechanical force on chrome and glass leaves a haze that never fully recovers. Everything is rinsed to neutral and dried, not left to air-dry — air-drying hard water is how the scale came back last time.

Where stone and limescale genuinely cannot be separated, we say so, and the honest answer is stone care rather than a deeper clean.

When a deep clean is the right answer

Seasonally. Twice a year for most households, usually at the end of winter and before the autumn.

Before a return. For houses used seasonally, paired with the opening service under housekeeping.

Before a sale or valuation. Agents' photography is unforgiving about limescale and glass in a way the eye is not.

At the start of a retained arrangement. We frequently recommend one before regular housekeeping begins, so that routine visits start from a known baseline rather than inheriting years of someone else's shortcuts.

After illness, or after a property has stood empty.

Questions

Common questions

How long does a deep clean take?

Most houses take a team of two to four between one and three days. We survey in person before quoting, because a deep clean estimated from a room count is a guess.

What is the difference between a deep clean and a regular clean?

A regular visit maintains what is visible and in daily use. A deep clean reaches what routine cleaning deliberately leaves alone: appliance interiors, behind fixed furniture, above head height, and accumulated limescale.

Will you remove limescale from my marble bathroom?

We will remove it from the chrome, glass and sanitary ware, with the stone isolated and protected first. Limescale on the marble itself is a stone care job, not a deep cleaning one, and we will tell you which you need.

Do I need to be at home?

No. We do prefer you or your property manager to walk the house with us at the end.

Do you clean windows?

Interior glass, reveals, shutters and glazing bars are included. Exterior glazing and anything above a single storey is quoted separately, as it needs different equipment.
